Spray Painter Jobs Profile in United States
An Automotive Spray Painter’s main role is to restore the exterior paintjob of a car to its original quality following an accident or fading. Automotive Spray Painters usually work in smash repair and panel beating businesses, in motor vehicle retailing or production lines.

The typical duties of a Spray Painter include:

  • stripping the vehicle through the use of sanding machines
  • applying filling primer to fill in scratches or irregularities
  • applying covers to windows, mirrors and headlights
  • mixing colours to ensure absolute accuracy in colour match
  • buffing the vehicle to ensure a polished finish

Spray Painters need to be comfortable working with paint and other chemical products associated with this job, therefore those with respiratory problems or skin conditions may find this work unsuitable.

To become a qualified Spray Painter, candidates complete an apprenticeship which combines theory with on-the-job training.
