Mining Engineer Jobs in United States
Mining Engineers play a key role in the planning and direction of the engineering aspects of extracting minerals from the earth. They prepare plans detailing the type, size, location and building of open pit or underground mines.

Mining Engineers supervise or undertake the following activities at a mine:

  • conduct investigations of mineral deposits and evaluate the profitability of mining them
  • prepare plans for mines, including tunnels and shafts for underground operations, using computer-aided design (CAD) programs
  • plan and coordinate the recruitment of mining staff and the purchase or rental of equipment to optimise efficiency, safety and limit environmental impact
  • consult with geologists and other engineers about the design, selection and provision of machines, facilities and systems for mining
  • undertake calculations and prepare estimates on the cost of the operation using specialist computer programs
  • observe safety regulations and conduct research into the effectiveness of current safety operations
